The Secret of Braided Line -- Dyneema

DYNEEMA

The two major representations of Fusion Line are Fire Line and Spider Wire. And the Fire Line is made of Dyneema fiber. What exactly is the Dyneema fiber? Simply speaking, it is made of polyethylene, PE in short. However, if it is made of ordinary polyethylene fiber, it is not qualified to be called Dyneema.

The Dyneema fiber is an ultra high tension textile fiber which is made by one of a kind of novel technique, called the Gel Spinning Technology method. At present, the main class is the SK-60. Dyneema SK-60 has strong strength and high Modulus, thus it has the special alternative name of HMPE. According to the studies, the SK-60 tensile strength is 30g/d, but the newer generation Dyneema fiber SK-71 intensity is 40g/d, 30% stronger than that of SK-60. Theoretically, what is the highest HMPE strength? The answer is 300g/d!

The specific gravity is only 0.98, the only fiber lighter than water among other high strength. It is water resistant, but at the same time its intensity is not reduced due to immersing. Therefore, Dyneema is especially qualified serve as the fishing line: It has excellent softness yet is able to bear high levels of friction, with no memory, no elonagation, and the ability to endure high temperature (melting point is at 152 degrees); moreover, it can tolerate high levels of UV ray and chemical concentrations. Meaning, it is a durable and a high quality product.

Spectra 2000 comprises of Spider Line fiber, its raw material is -- polyethylene, PE. Besides, fundamentally speaking, it is produced by the very same method as the fusion line. That is, except the difference on the surface of the fishing line after being processed in the factories, in reality, they are all the same inside.
